04/04 Easter Sunday Selections

14:30 Cork Petit Mouchoir 10/11

I think the nearly evens about him here is good value, the best horse in the race and his main rival has to give him weight despite being rate inferior to him. The only slight concern would be if the hard run at Cheltenham took anything out of him, where he finished so well but could only manage second. Elimay won yesterday though after an arguably harder race at Cheltenham so I’m happy enough to have a play here.

15:20 Fairyhouse Global Equity 25/1 4 places

You do have to forgive her last run as she was a shade disappointing, however her previous form is looming very solid now. Her race prior to that was just a length behind Atlantic Fairy and you can see the huge disparity in price for that with AF 9/2 favourite for this! The race before that was even better a valuable Mares handicap, where she was just a neck second to emphatic Cheltenham winner, Heaven Help Us, behind her that day was Cheltenham Mares novice winner Telmesomethinggirl who we backed; Lady Breffni who won well yesterday; and Ruaille Buaille who was third in the same race Lady Breffni won. Her and Heaven Help Us finished 3 or 4 lengths clear of Telmesomethinggirl and if she repeats that form would have an excellent chance. With four places on offer I think we can hope she returns to form and fills one of the first four.

15:26 Plumpton Diego Du Charmil 7/2

A horse that I’ve always liked, and the clear class angle in this race. His previous runs have been in graded races most recently disappointing in the Christmas Hurdle Grade One that has him off his lowest rating in years dropped down to a class two handicap. The good ground will suit and despite carrying top weight, the talented Angus Cheleda takes off 7 pounds and think he should be winning this. I’ll also have a double on him and Petit Mouchoir both to win.

16:05 Cork Plinth 80/1 5 places

You may look at this and think I’m mad, but despite being a little old now, Plinth was a one time grade two winner rated as high as 144, he runs today off of 120. Hear me out though, last summer on better ground he finished 6th of 14 in a hit grade three behind Petit Mouchoir, ahead of yesterday’s winner a Hearts are Trumps and Joseph OBriens A Wave Of The Sea who has won a big handicap this year. His two runs since have been not to his usual standard on soft/heavy ground, pulled up at Punchestown before an 11th of 18 last time. However, that day he raced wide throughout and was never really put into the race at all which conveniently sees him dropped a further 4. He may just be gone at the game but I hope the better ground and low weight can help him bounce back and 80/1 was too big to ignore with the extra places!

16:35 Cork Ellipsism 25/1 5 places

Another that’s a bit speculative but I think his run last time out should have him strip fitter here and back to three miles could eek out some additional improvement. He doesn’t have a big weight to carry and this race looks quite open to me.
