Boodles Fred Winter Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (Grade Three)

When it comes to this race, there is so much to consider, we have the horses who are highly rated that aren’t quite good enough for the Triumph, as well as some of the less exposed horses with ratings way lower than they will end up! It’s intriguing to say the least!

I can’t see either of Quilixios or Zanahiyr running in this, both will be in the Triumph. Saint Sam and Busselton are closely matched on form with a second and third each behind Quilixios and Zanahiyr in graded races over in Ireland. Currently of the two I would be more interested in Busselton, who is a better price and on Irish ratings will be carrying less, so interesting to see the final weights when announced for those two.

There are a lot of well found horses in this race who all have massive chances, Riviere D’etel, Teahupoo, Druids Altr and the somewhat disappointing Nassalam who’s bubble appears to have burst following two 50 length wins before Christmas, he has been well beaten since.

The nature of this race means I won’t be staking too much on it as it is very open and possible for lesser exposed horses to win. The horse at a larger price that I like would be Tinnahalla, who is an ex flat horse who achieved a peak RPR of 79 on the flat, which although not top class is still decent, a quiet start to hurdles with 4th and second in juvenile races either side of Christmas. Most recently he got a win under his belt in another juvenile race winning in good style. He is less exposed than a lot of these here and think he will end up being much better than the current 126 rating he has, so worth at a shot at a big price.

Selections-

Busselton 0.5pts Each way 10/1

Tinnahalla 0.5pts Each way 25/1 NON RUNNER
