Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle

Another difficult handicap where I will have three darts at with extra places on the day, hoping to end the week with a bang.
Gentleman De Mee was highly thought of when recruited from France, he got off to the perfect start winning a maiden hurdle in taking fashion. In France he ran over 2 miles 2 and I think the extra distance in this won’t hinder him, when he won last time he looked a potential graded horse and could be absolutely well in off of only 139 in the handicap. I think the 6/1 on him is short but he did look very good when winning and the fact he also holds an entry in the Ballymore shows how well they think of him at home. I will be backing this one as I think he may end up making the handicapper look silly.
Global Equity if she ends up here rather than one of the novice races could be absolutely chucked in off of 132. If you consider last year she placed in a listed and grade three hurdle and then this year just look at some of the horses who have beaten her: Gauloise, Skyace, Roseys Hollow these horses are all near the top of the market for the Mares Novice! She was then unlucky in a valuable handicap over two miles two furlongs where Heaven Help us just held on, she was well backed that day and another 50 yards she’d have won going away from them! After that she was put back up in trip in listed company and ran second again by a length to Atlantic Fairy who either goes to the Ballymore or Albert Bartlett. This trip looks ideal and I can see her staying on into one of the places but I will be hoping that at 33/1 she can go one better than that and get her head in front.
The last three years of this race have all been won by horses rated 144 or higher, that’s near the top of the weights and there’s a horse on a similar rating that I like the look of, we have Column of Fire who is rated 145 but has only been seen once when finishing 18th out of 20 after falling in this race last year, I will avoid him at only 10/1. We then have Monte Cristo who I think goes for Coral Cup, Diego Du Charmil is a 2 mile horse so most like heading to the Grand Annual, Go Another One is a 3 mile horse and then Janika will end up running elsewhere too. The one that I’ve taken a shine to is Champagne Gold for Henry De Bromhead who may end up being top weight if those names do not run. Despite being highly rated he is relatively lightly raced with only four runs over fences. A second on debut before winning a maiden, he was then pitched into a grade three where he finished a close third to Fakiera now one of the Albert Bartlett favourites. Next time out he ran in a very strong Handicap over 2 miles. Finishing well but not having the pace to go with Drop The Anchor. In behind that day was County Hurdle prospect Saint D’oroux, along with other good yard sticks in Tiger Tap Tap, Buildmeupbuttercup, Stratum and Eclair De Beaufeu. I think the step back up in trip will really suit him and 12/1 looks a good each way shot here. It may be worth a second look at Fire Attack if he goes here instead of the Coral Cup, he wasn’t quite good enough in graded company since beating Champagne Gold for second behind Fakiera, but would be off a lesser mark despite finishing a few lengths ahead that day.
With two Non runners my each way selection here will be Fire Attack for Joseph O'Brien as mentioned in the reasoning behind Champagne Gold, he finished ahead previously but is off a lower mark. Interesting that he ends up here rather than the Coral Cup, ad I'll back him each way at 16/1.
Gentleman De Mee 6/1 1pt win NRNB
Fire Attack 16/1 0.5pts each way
