Saturday 20/03 Selections
Well a bit of a come down from the brilliant racing of the last 4 days, but I still think there’s a couple of good bets for tomorrow.
Screaming Colours in the Midlands Grand National at 3:35 is my first pick 17/2 with 5 places or 7/1 with 7 places available with Skybet. I think it interesting that William Durkan brings this horse over to England, he doesn’t often if ever bring horses over here and must feel he has an excellent chance. He has improved with each step up in trip winning his first start by 8 lengths. He then has three seconds, the most recent being upped to 3 and a half miles in the Punchestown Grand National trial, just a half length away from The Big Dog who is now one of the favourites for the Irish National and very highly thought of. It was a tough battle between the two and as a backer of The Big Dog that day I was convinced Screaming Colours was coming to win the race that day. I can see the 4 miles 2 really suiting here off of a light weight with Conor Orr taking off an extra 3 pounds. With the extra places I’m confident here and will be playing 1pt each way.
The 1:30 at Kempton is a decent looking race but the one I’ve sided with is Royaume Uni at 5/1 he ran in some very competitive races after coming over highly rated from France. His first start he was very green and was beaten into seventh. He stepped that up with a fourth to Heross Du Seuil and has come out and won a couple of flat races. Firstly a jumpers bumper where he was gambled in and won convincingly under a confident ride. He was then sent back to Lingfield in a flat race and with Ryan Moore on board won easily again by 4 lengths. I think back over hurdles he has a great chance with the two favourites carrying a penalty here. I’ll be playing 1pt win.
Finally we have Unexpected Depth for Olly McKiernan at Thurles in the 2:50. Boasting some good form this year in some valuable handicaps. His first run was a win in a 18 runner field followed by an excellent third to Dandy Mag over Christmas finishing between The Bosses Oscar and Mrs Milner which shows his form credentials. His market rival here Commander Of Fleet finished around 16 lengths behind him that day and I don’t think the swing in the weights is enough to reverse that form. Next time out he finished second in the William Fry where he was beaten by a well handicapped Mullins runner. I hope that despite the short price connections will be hoping to add another win to his form this year. This will be another 1pt win selection at 5/4.
Here’s to a good Saturday and hopefully some more profit.
1:30 Kempton Royaume Uni 5/1 1pt win
2:50 Unexpected Depth 5/4 1pt win
3:35 Uttoxeter Screaming Colours 17/2 1pt each way 5 places (7 Skybet)
